Running Timers Widget
The Running Timers widget shows in real time which timers are currently active in a specific Time Tracking widget – across all users. For every active timer the reference (e.g., project), the user and the elapsed duration are displayed.
This provides a live view of ongoing work within a team – ideal for team leads, dispatch desks or customer service areas that need to know who is currently working on what.
Typical Use Cases
| Use Case | Description |
|---|---|
| Team live overview | See at a glance who is currently working on which project. |
| Shift monitoring | Track active maintenance or service jobs in real time. |
| Customer service | Observe ongoing consultations or ticket handling. |
| Utilization monitoring | Recognize how many people are currently tracking time. |
| End-of-day check | Verify before closing time whether any timers were left running. |
Features
- Live list: All currently running timers of the observed Time Tracking widget are displayed in a compact list.
- Real-time elapsed: The current elapsed time of each timer is updated every second in HH:MM:SS format.
- User display: Each entry shows the associated user (email address when available).
- Reference: The reference linked to the timer (e.g., project name) is shown alongside.
- Stable sort order: The longest-running timer appears at the top – keeping the list calm and predictable across refreshes.
Configuration
The properties dialog selects which Time Tracking widget should be observed.
- Timer Widget: Selection of the target Time Tracking widget from a list of all available Time Tracking widgets in the tenant.
- Refresh interval: How often the list of running timers is refreshed (in seconds).
Cross-dashboard
The observed Time Tracking widget does not need to live on the same dashboard. Time Tracking widgets from other dashboards can be selected as well – ideal for dedicated overview dashboards for team leads.
Example
A team lead wants to see who from the consulting team is currently working with which client. On the team dashboard a Running Timers widget is set up that points to the Time Tracking widget on the consultant dashboard. In real time it becomes visible that three consultants are currently working on client files – with names, clients and elapsed processing time.
Relation to the Time Tracking Widget
This widget only displays read-only information about running timers. Starting and stopping happens in the Time Tracking widget. Both widgets share the same active timer entries – changes made in the Time Tracking widget become visible in the Running Timers widget on the next refresh.
Tips
- Dedicated overview dashboard: For team leads, a separate dashboard with multiple Running Timers widgets (one per team) works well as a central live overview.
- Refresh interval: A shorter interval (e.g., 10 seconds) reflects changes faster but creates more load. For overview screens, 30–60 seconds is usually sufficient.
- Combine with reporting: A table widget showing already recorded time entries complements the live view with historical context.
